NSTableView - "colspan" Multiple column spans?

I'm trying to figure out how to use NSTableView to show certain
rows with two columns merged -- that is, spanning more than one
column. Essentially the equivalent of <td colspan=2> for the
HTML-savvy.

Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe there would be some way to force
certain table cells to be drawn wider than they really should be,
by looking at the sizing for the column ahead. But this seems
rather kludgey. Is there an elegant solution to this? Or, barring
that, is there an inelegant solution with a code snippet I can
use? :-)
