Of course, if TYPE codes were used correctly (so, for instance, HTML
files were not given a TYPE code of TEXT), then you would be correct, and
the advice by Ali Ozer <email@hidden>, about providing the TYPE code, but
not the CREATOR code (since, in those cases where the CREATOR code would
cause no problem---proprietary binary formats---the CREATOR code is
unnecessary, since the TYPE code is unique), would be wise counsel.
/If/ we could get to this situation, then even if we /did/ write CREATOR
codes, the OS /should/ be able to be told by the user to /ignore/ the
CREATOR codes, or to substitute another application for files that use a
given CREATOR code.
I see the problem not in the inclusion of CREATOR codes, but in the
unmitigated insistence that the OS (Finder) give deference to the CREATOR
code in /all/ cases.
