Do you want to tie your app to the past or to the future?

Future - which is why I chose Cocoa.

:)

But there are some aspects of the Unix file system which don't feel like
"The Great Leap Forward." I've used Unix for decades, and paths and
extensions have worked well enough since 1970. (At least for ASCII.) I just
thought after 30 years we would offer some improvements on the user
experience....

One of the things I did prefer about classic MacOS was the ability to specify an FSSpec. I do think that is a step forward in many ways -- you can move a directory around behind the app and not break anything because it's relying on a pathname (ugh).

That said, it's all a mixed bag, and if that's the worst thing I can find to complain about, Apple did a good job.

One of the things I *like* about Unix is the: "this is your sandbox to play in" -- it's much easier to upgrade the system when things are in semi-known places.
