Exactly. Why write for 5% of the market?

I take it back -- I don't think EOF offers *enough* competitive advantage to overcome this issue.

After walking out of the EOF session in anger today, I later realized (after the Stepwise BOF) what open source really means:

Open source software means never having to tell your customers, "I'm sorry."

It means never having to backstab your developers.

It means never having to say, "well, we don't have the resources to maintain it, but we don't want to license it to a competitor [they tried it once. Hated it.] and giving it away would mean we couldn't make megabucks on the more limited (but more marketable) version we just wrote."

In other words, it means never having to tell your loyal developers that their needs and wants aren't important to you -- regardless of how important an individual issue may be to them.

Which means one has more developers, which leads to more apps, which leads to more market share.

Or, conversely:

anger leads to hate - hate leads to suffering." -- Yoda
