Newbie drawing question

I'm working a project that prints reports and labels, and got a few
questions.

First, for [NSFont userFontWithSize:]--I'm not really clear what size is.
It's not a point size, what is it?

Second, for the coordinate system, is there a way to determine the
resolution, or is each pixel always 1/72 of an inch?
