[English] Dictionary files corrupt?

Does anyone know which files/libraries under Mac OS X 10.1 are used as a
shared English language lookup dictionary? I have a friend who seems to
have a corrupt dictionary which is causing every word typed in Mail.app
and Fire.app (messaging client) to highlight every word as misspelled.
