Thanks to everyone for their respective help.

Don Murta and I have discovered that it was a bug in the CocoaShell class.

For those of you who told me not to block the signals: **I'm not THAT stupid!**
It is what is often called a "quick and dirty hack". Be assured that it was a *very* temporary test thing to help see what was happening. The only reason I mentioned it was that I thought it odd that it would start alternating between the two numbers.

I will now perform "Ode to the Java Garbage Collector"...<smile />
