I use Cmd-h to hide entire applications (and all of
their windows). When you restore the hidden
application, it remebers all of its window placements,
sizes, scroll positions etc. Hiding and unhiding apps
is even more flexible that multiple workspaces in some
ways.
I use this technique as well but there is a
significantly more efficient way to do it:
Hold <option> when you click on a program icon in the
dock and your current application is hidden and that
one is brought to the front. Better yet you can hold
<option> + <Apple-key> when you click on a program
icon in the dock and all the programs that are running
are hidden and then selected program is brought to the
front.
I use this sweet feature all the time and I find it
much more efficient (not to mention you don't forget
where things are or run out of "workspaces") than
virtual workspaces. This is also better than the
<Apple>+h since not all apps (primarily carbon apps
like ICQ) don't have "h" assigned to hiding so you
actually have to use the menu item. This solution
takes care of all of that for you.
Hope that is of use,
Jeff.
