The book looks good, and I'll be getting it. Unfortunately, the book isn't
available yet, nor is the other one I've heard great stuff about, by
Hillegrass.
I understand the frustration, answering the same questions several times.
Been there, done that, for years. But, in my case as an example, I'm less
than three weeks into this stuff, after more than a decade in dealing with
C++ and the traditional Mac API. It is a new mindset, and you're right, I'm
having trouble with the transition. But I do appreciate what's cool about
Objective C, I do see the advantages, and I have a great hunger to figure
this all out.
How am I figuring it out? I'm reading documentation, I'm reading every book
I can get my hands on, I'm looking for sample source code, I'm trying
various things in my program. And, yeah, I'm asking questions. I'm asking
questions I won't be asking two months from now, I'll asking questions I'll
probably be answering. That's the tradition I'm used to, at least.
Again, I think the best solution is two lists, one for basic issues (with
novice users and those willing to put up with these basic questions) and one
for more advanced issues. I've got faith that there would be those selfless
experienced users who will answer questions on the basic side <grin>.
The questions asked by people who are getting into the system are different
from those who are into the system. My only real complaint is your
assumption that those who are asking those early questions (a) aren't
trying, and (b) will never progress.
