popup in window title bar

Hi all,
NSWindow has this nice functionality where if you set
a valid local path to be its represented filename, you
get a popup button in the title bar with the full path
if COMMAND-clicked. The problem is that this mechanism
works only if the represented path actually exists on
the local file system.
In my view it is unfortunate that a nice UI mechanism
like the popup button in the title bar is hardwired
into one specific task and it cannot be used for
anything else. It should be possible to put an
arbitrary array of strings into that popup and have a
decent action/callback mechanism when the user selects
an item.
If I missed something and this is actually possible,
please let me know.

Thanx!
