[[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.apple.com/";]];

should work... I recall someone mentioning that you have to be sure to have the slash after it. The [NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] openURL: is what opens the URL in the default web browser.
