This is a major release of both projects. They are now both
quite mature, fast and stable.
Here's what's new in GNUMail.app since 0.7.0:
- Apple MacOS-X port (with NIBs and project's files)
- better usability
- you can now select the ~/gnumail directory
of your choice (see FAQ)
- you can now rename mailboxes
- You can now save the textual content of a message
to a file
- you can now send addresses of the selected message
directly in your addressbook
- fixed a lot of bugs and some memory leaks
- refactored all classes and reorganized
all the sources
- you can now specify the port of your IMAP or
POP3 server
- you can now specify that you always want to
see all headers of a message
- you can now activate 'wait panels' for operations
that can be time-consuming (like, sending a mail)
- faster and more stable
You can get GNUMail.app 0.8.0 here:

Note that new screenshots have been added, for the
MacOS-X port!
Here's what's new in Pantomime since 0.6.0:
- now encodes text/plain content, subject,
and the personal part of an E-Mail address
using the right encoding and the right
character set
- better MIME support (added multipart/alternative
and multipart/appledouble)
- now supports user-defined X- headers
- major performance upgrade
- better IMAP support
- fixed a lot of bugs and some memory leaks
- complete Apple MacOS-X port (with project's files)
- new messages bouncing code
- refactored a lot of classes and reorganized
all the sources

You can also use CVS to grab the most recent versions of both
GNUMail.app and Pantomime:
cvs -d :pserver:email@hidden:/opt/cvsroot login
The password is anoncvs.
cvs -d :pserver:email@hidden:/opt/cvsroot co GNUMail
cvs -d :pserver:email@hidden:/opt/cvsroot co Pantomime
To use this version of GNUMail.app and Pantomime, you need the
latest version of GNUstep, ie., the CVS version.
You can follow the following instructions to install GNUstep from
CVS:
http://www.gnustep.net/Documentation/BuildGuide/develop.html (English)
http://www.stupid-design.com/martin/GNUstep/develop-de.html (German)
If you use MacOS-X, GNUMail.app and Pantomime have been ported to 10.1.1.
This is an initial port to this platform so I would say that it's
currently more targeted to developers than real users since there's
still some very minor issues to fix.
I will provide a binary packaged version for MacOS-X in the following
days.
For the next release of GNUMail.app and Pantomime, I would like to focus
on:
1- new preferences panel with dynamically loaded bundles
2- GPG/PGP support
3- translation to Italian and Dutch
4- HTML text converter (could be reused in GNUstep GUI after)
5- non-blocking I/O in Pantomime
Again, I would like to thanks the following people who helped me
getting this big release done by sending suggestions, patches and
more: James Balhoff, Martin Brecher, Stephane Corthesy, Mark Cox,
Erik Dalen, Francis Lachapelle, Alexander Malmberg, Nicola Pero,
Stephane Peron, Vincent Ricard, Jeff Teunissen and Fabien Vallon.
Thanks a lot,
Ludovic
