Right, but the Carbon toolbox does not fit the original context:

So what? I explained why TextEdit's (the application) Open Selection doesn'
t work with Carbon apps: TextEdit (the API) doesn't support it. That's it.
Replace all occurrences of "TextEdit" in my original mail with "duck" and maybe you'll get the message.
