The more languages you know, the better programmer you are in all of them,
and the easier it is to pick up one more. It's probably a little easier to
pick up Java from C++ than the converse so I guess you made the right
choice.
By all means also familiarize yourself with something outside the C family
as well. Lisp and Smalltalk are good candidates.
