What opens .app extension?

  • Subject: What opens .app extension?

This may be a very easy question, but I was wondering what application opens
files with a .app extension?

I know that from the command line I can type "open TextEdit" and TextEdit
will then launch, but I was wondering how the equivalent was happening when
I double click on an application in the Finder.

Thanks.

Jeff
