I wrote one of these in PowerPlant several years ago. It supported all
the features you describeand don't forget Clean Up,
scriptability/recordability, efficient caching for large containers--and
turned out to be a lot of code. I was hoping this was already available
within Cocoa, but I'll have to see about porting much of previous work.
