Date formatting

When I use a date formatting string such as @"%B" for the month the string is always in english no matter what language is selected in the "International" system preference. It looks likes there's plenty of localized versions of the months, days of the week, etc. in the Foundation.frameworks/Resources/Languages. Is there something else I need to do?
