DOOM was definitely written on NextStep and ported to Pentium. Quake was also done on NextStep, but NS was dropped shortly thereafter because of a lack of OpenGL support. id had quite the arrangement of odd NS machines, including some of the old HP PA machines and Canon Object.Stations. I know, I used to have to work around them while they were collecting dust in the storage room =)
