The class vs instance issue is important and isn't hard to grasp
IMO. Reading the available documentation is a good way to start.
Learning it through a series of misconceptions, is not.
I have to agree with that... I've sat through a lot of classes where
they taught things which I knew to be incorrect just to simplify
things, and all it means is that the people being taught had to learn
it again when the time came to learn the truth. It's usually better
to take a while longer to figure something out the hard way, and
fully understand it, than to learn various simplified versions and
have to squish them all together to try to get them to fit with the
facts.
Having said that, if you don't understand something fully at first,
it's natural to come up with analogies in your own mind to help you
to understand it, and then change them as time goes on. However, I
think it's best to come up with the simplified versions yourself, and
not tell them to other people - sometimes someone else's
simplification is more difficult to understand than the 'complicated'
version.
Of course, I'm no teacher... please forgive my rant :)
