The original install (I now use HFS+) I did with Mac OS X was on a UNIX
partition. The only advantage to doing this I found was being able to have
case-sensitive file structure.
Ie. In a UNIX formatted drive you can hold a file called:
MacDESKTOP as well as Macdesktop, In the same directory. The only way I can
find this useful is if you are writing software dedicated to to the UNIX
standards.
I actually noticed a very large diminished performance issue with the UNIX
file system. I am not sure if this is related, however, the system
preferences (namely the display preference) went corrupt as well. With HFS+
I have had no troubles as of yet.
Another advantage is that you can access your MAC OS X partition from Mac OS
9 with no trouble.
