Sorry I can't answer the original question, since I have never done that myself.

Though, it might be pointed out that NSImage has no "representations". It
just can draw itself, calling its drawing code. Of course, that code can be
called under different conditions in different environments; that's why there
is (in principle, unlimited!!!) number of possible TIFF representations.
