What is the recommended location to put a Close Window Menu Item ?
The Aqua Interface Guidelines documentation states that it should be put
in the File Menu under the Open menu item. Which is what is done on Mac
OS 1.x to 9.x .
Now, when I'm having a look at some Mac OS X Applications from Apple,
let's say:
- Project Builder
- Interface Builder
- Preview
- CPU Monitor
- Mail
- TextEdit
the Close Window Menu Item is in the Window menu and sometimes in the
File menu (sometimes it's Close Document, sometimes it's close,
sometimes the shorcut is on this item, sometimes it's in the Window
Menu, etc...).
So what is the appropriate location ?
It seems the Aqua Interface Guidelines is a "Do as I say not as I do"
documentation...
Another example:
Command + Shift + G is stated to be the Find Previous shortcut, it's
still not in Mail, Project Builder, TextEdit and of course Interface
Builder. This point was defined in the Aqua Interface Guidelines before
the release of Mac OS X 4K78 and it's still not supported as of Mac OS X
4Q12 and later.
It's not that I can't get used to the Command + D shortcut, it's just
because Mac OS is supposed to be a consistent platform not a Windowsy or
Unixy one.
