This is of course a matter of what you're used to do. A window is
a window, be it a utility window or not. CMD-w closes the active
window, that's what I'm used to.

If I bring up search window/panel, or perhaps hitting CMD-i in
Finder, should I not be able to close that window with CMD-w (which
is actually the case with Finder in 10.0.4 at least)?

But then again, that's just what I'm used to. Guess that if the
classic-mac-folks don't want it that way it won't be that way.

Rosyna:
One thing is for sure, utility windows should NOT be able to be closed with command W. it never happened in Mac OS Classic, it shouldn't happen now. You have no idea how many time I was in IB and hit command w, only to close the show info utility window.
