NSScroller activation when listing items beyond the clipped region

Hi,
The main window of my app launches with a table listing data. The problem
is that, although my table entries extend beyond the clipped region the
vertical scroll bar does not activate unless I begin to resize the window.
I do not see this behavior with the horizontal scroll bar.
Any ideas?
