What login file is "normal" depends on the shell you're using - use
.cshrc for tcsh.

The point was - I'm not using a shell. I want to set environment
variables
for the finder - so that anything the finder launches (PB in this case)
inherits the variables.
put a file in your home directory in
.MacOSX/environment.plist
it should be a dictionary
like this
{
"SOMETHING" = "Something Else";
}
