Sigh...
I am trying to develop code in Cocoa to display Arabic (or Persian). At
this time MacOS X does not have Arabic language support, but I received a
message from Apple that they planned to. Of course, they could not give
information as to when.
Anyone know if it will be in Jaguar?
So, I decided to delve into ATSUI, which Apple suggested I might want to
try, and now I have some code that can render English (run through Unicode)
in a number of fonts in an NSView via the ATSUI function calls. This was
not entirely easy with the lack of clear example code or tutorials.
But that may have been the easy part!
Now I need a "font with Arabic glyphs, a Unicode cmap, and a 'mort' or
'morx' table that handles the appropriate shaping behavior."
I thought I had the Arabic font installed on my system because I installed
the Arabic Language kit under MacOS 9 (I have even played with the Arabic
SimpleText), but I cannot find Arabic fonts on the system anywhere... I did
find Persian fonts on the MacOS 9 CD, but not Arabic.
Am I missing something?
Finally, once I do find (or buy) and Arabic font, does anyone have any
pointers to sample code or tutorials on using "a Unicode cmap and a 'mort'
or 'morx' table that handles the appropriate shaping behavior" for some
language?
Exasperated,
Todd
