Announcing: The Missing Cocoa Docs

http://www.bergdesign.com/missing_cocoa_docs/

While the name makes it sound like much more than it is, the Missing Cocoa Docs is the beginning of a compilation of subjects that should be helpful to beginning programmers. The pages are an attempt to supplement existing docs and books, and to make up for the lack of concise examples on simple topics like making an about box work and implementing simple HTML help. In upcoming subjects, we'll attempt to add information on more specific subjects like accessing font outlines and "gotchas" when using NSScanner, among other tricky things.

Today, Simson Garfinkel posted an announcement about his newly revised book, "Building Cocoa Applications: A Step By Step Guide" (which I'll run and buy ASAP), and humorously, you'll see from his comments that some of these missing topics will even supplement his new book very nicely.

A few things are notably missing from this book, such as a discussion of
NSFormatter, Apple Help, and a few other technologies. But overall, we
present enough information to let people develop serious applications. .

I usually spend a lot of time editing and re-editing until things looks right, but I don't think my ramblings always properly capture my intentions. Please don't hesitate to write and suggest changes, or to tell me to pull something if it sounds offending. I really don't want to offend anyone, especially the guys and gals at Apple who have put a lot of hard work into writing the docs. My intentions are truly to help correct errors and instigate changes, so when you see my comments, keep these intentions in mind and read the comments as an offer to help in any way that I can.

Thanks,
Brock Brandenberg
