Its the opaqueness that determines whether you can hit some thing, you can put holes in you window by making areas that are completely transparent but I don't think you can make opaque areas click though. This has been ask before, maybe on the Omni list and nobody came up with a solution.

I don't think that behavior exists in 10.1 though.
