Thanks to all who responded (including those who started new threads, as I
should have).

My first reaction was "Yikes! I've started another debate." But I learned
something (guard clauses). Also, I felt confirmed in my view that my coding
style is very tasteful and gentlemanly, a style that I strive to achieve in
everything I do.

I hope this wasn't such a newbie question that it will drive everybody to
that other list. I was just curious. I made the mistake of going to law
school instead of computer science school a long time ago.
