You can find out exactly what the BSD Subsystem installs by opening the
package "BSD.pkg" with my app, Pacifist. Shameless plug, I know. :-)

And what is only getting installed with the BSD Subsystem? (Which is

Stupid yes, but IIRC gnutar was only installed with the devtools under

This is important, because you cannot package stuff for distribution
if you cannot know that all people in your target audience got the
tools to unpack them.
I would hate to have to put customers in the catch-22 position of
first having to find out how to download a decompressor, before being
able to download and decompress my product.
The fact (?) that Stuffit might be able to decompress bz2 is not
really good enough either - since Stuffit is known to mangle file
names out of spite.
It would be interesting to know if Apple now installs basic
compression and encoding utilities with the default installation of
Jaguar (besides Stuffit Expander and DiscCopy)?
