I just posted a message explaining how to workaround a serious bug in the OS by manipulating NIBs (the Cycle Windows issue: http://cocoa.mamasam.com/COCOADEV/2002/08/1/42127.php). This is a real-world example of the usefulness of public NIBs.

I actually did encounter an application that prevented me from using a customized NIB and making it more useable, and I am now looking for alternatives to this application.
