action cells and outline views

I've implemented a subclass of NSActionCell, but I'm having difficulty figuring out how to send its value back to its outline view's datasource. It's not a text editor based cell, so sending a NSTextDidEndEditing notification isn't feasible. What message does NSButtonCell use to report the change in its value?
