That makes sense, but it's bad. The idea that the very same file can have
two different names depending which cable I hook the two computers together
with (I am being deliberately obtuse here to bring out the absurdity of the
situation) is vile. Because, you see, if its name can change like this,
then how can I find out - and this is what I'm actually trying to do - that
it is the same file? I guess I can't. Grrr. m.
