Inteface Builder and Greek support

Ok ok, I know MacOS X is built around Unicode. I know that Cocoa uses
Unicode 2.0 as its default encoding, BUT:
- When creating a Greek.lproj it is impossible within any control/widget
(button, list, label, etc) to write properly accented Greek. French, for
example works fine. You can add all the accents, but with Greek it is
impossible.
- Moreover, after running the application, the keyboard shortcuts (and yes
the language was set to English) do not function if the Greek.lproj is being
used, even though the shortcuts are alright themselves. For example, even if
English is the selected language at the time, Command-Q would not quit the
application if Greek.lproj was being used. Using the English.lproj restored
proper functionality.
I believe that Apple has been neglecting Greek users and developers for far
too long. I have found myself using MacOS X exclusively in the past year or
so and find the support for Greek the least disappointing. One would expect
that *at least* the development tools would allow for proper Greek
localization, considering the infrastructure and the unicode basis upon
which Cocoa was built. Linux and BSD, once a *very* hard OS to properly
configure to use Greek are much much 'nicer' when it comes to it.
I am hopeful that the Inteface Builder (and Project Builder) will be fixed
so as too allow Greek developers (as well as people who localise software)
to do their job right.
Finally, it would be nice if Apple supported Greek in Carbon (which it
doesn't unless the app. is using ATSUI); without the support, currently most
applications for OS X cannot be used with Greek. Moreover, it would
certainly help if Apple provided more fonts for use with MacOS X which
supported Greek (as of 10.2.2 the only font that includes basic greek
characters is Lucide Grande. No Greek polytonic keyboard is to be found in
OS X at this moment).
All in all, both Carbon and Cocoa suffer from incomplete functionality when
it comes to localising software for Greek. And even though it is definitely
a small market for Apple to grasp, there are a lot of people who,
disappointed by Apple's tactics and ignorance, turn to Windows or even
Linux. Shame, really.
Best regards,
Dimosthenis
