A minor point - although /System/Library/Extensions exists and is used,
/Library/Extensions is not currently intended for use according to a recent
posting on the darwin-dev list. (~/Library/Extensions is also verboten.)

Basically it is not an "(acceptable) alternative" folder to use :-(
