Its just to avoid naming comflicts - i.e. to stop one app picking the same
string as another. Certian program names get resused from time to
time...such as Cocoa funnily enough.

Well its not tragic but it should still be a unique string. You could try
a reverse of you email address, including your username.

It's not that weird...I have au.net.ugh. Better than being mistaken for an
American ;-)

It's just piggybacking on someone elses central registry to make sure they
remain unique. .com was traditionaly US based (which is why there is
.co.nz and .com.au) even if the convention hasn't been adhered to very
strictly.
