IOKit and DVD access

Hi,
I am new to using IOKit and am a bit (actually totally) lost as to where to start looking for how to read in blocks from a dvd disk. I am trying to port over some code for a DeCSS library so I can make a DVD player component for my framework. I have read the Accessing Hardware pdf which gave a CD example. It was quite easy to compare the code to code written for linux. It is just that the data structures are quite different from Linux to IOKit, so I am having trouble figuring out how to actually go about accessing information on the DVD.

Does anyone have code snippets or example code of accessing DVD info? If not, I will try and put together a small tutorial on it once I have grasped the concepts of it.

Any help or info is greatly appreciated.

regards,
Greg

Happy New Year
