hi-

I just implemented a real-time graph CPU monitor on mac os x. Because it's a CPU monitor it monitors its own performance. The graphing takes 1-3% of the CPU. Moving the mouse around takes more CPU than graphing and it is so sensitive you can see the system processing other app's cursor rects as the mouse is moved.

Under OpenStep V4.2 or YellowBox/NT the best performance was about 3% of CPU. So, Quartz is actually really fast.
