Background Color opacity

Hello,

I'd like to create a TextView object with a transparent background. It
seems easy to do within Interface Builder (by setting the background color
opacity), but this doesn't work when the program is actually run.
Instead, I get a solid color that corresponds roughly to the alpha
component.

What do I need to do to enable this functionality? It displays properly
within Interface Builder so it seems like it must be an option somewhere.

Thanks for any help!
Patrick
