Selecting root item of submenu

  • Subject: Selecting root item of submenu

Hi all,

Forgive me if this one's already been asked, but is there any way to select a root item of submenu?

For exmaple;

File Edit
-----------
Open
Close
Root ------+---- Sub1
Print +---- Sub2
+---- Sub3

I have an instance where "Root" needs to be a valid selection but the application never responds to it. I've heard that there is a fairly common way to do this under Carbon, but what about Cocoa? Any suggestion welcome.
