When I have my Cocoa app say this, it freaks out on '37'
There are a lot of problems in OS X text-to-speech - not as many as
there
were in 10.0.0.1, but still a lot. I have seen situations where entire
words and phrases are skipped. Matthias Neeracher (of MacPerl fame) is
in
charge of this at Apple. You might write to him directly. m.
FWIW, I've been filing bugs too ever since the public beta days. Things
are indeed getting better, but there are still some "critical" bugs that
prevent me from enabling speech for my apps. Please do file bugs. I
have a feeling that only a few of us even use these technologies so they
might be pretty low on the fix-it priority list.
The major bugs for me are ones dealing with pronunciations (be it not
being able to speak text or even some phonemes if using phonetical
input). Also, the speech recognition processes tend to hang around
after you close it down. This particular bug has just been fixed, but I
have no idea what OS version it will make its debut in.
I also find that the quality of the voices are not yet there with how
they are under Mac OS 9.x and earlier. To me they sound a bit modulated.
