That, of course, does not mean that they might not *want to* do it
(=implement the same AppleEvent suites that the real Finder does) to support
legacy Carbon software, plus those like you.

How about all those people who write or use AppleScripts? You seem to be forgetting about them. If I download some scripts for iTunes (for example), which use the Finder to do some things, it would be really nice if they still worked with HypotheticalFinderReplacement.

And don't even start with calling Carbon "legacy", we've had that argument enough times before.

Should I write a Finder
replacement myself, I probably would have that in my tasklist, but with
pretty low priority.

Aha, see, I think the same way about going out of my way to support people who intentionally disable the Finder.

Actually, I *think* the real target one should communicate with to properly
use Trash is Dock, not Finder: presumably (and hopefully!) it's exactly what
Finder itself does. I'll try to hack it out when I'm back in OSX.

Unfortunately, there is no public interface to the Dock that I know of. But like I said, I'd love to see some code.
