Here's a big project for someone with dialup-modem OS X experience. It's for
an ISP that wants to have a dial-up client created for them that is OS X
native. Right now, they're using Rockstar's "Internet Setup Monkey" software
(www.rockstar.com) for their OS 8/9 installer. Unfortunately, Rockstar has
no plans for creating an OS X version. (They're changing business strategies
and focusing on PC's only).
I told this ISP that perhaps they could pay Rockstar enough to make it worth
their while to port to OS X. In the event this doesn't pan out, I'm curious
what folks on this listserve would charge for such a project. (6 month
timeframe).
Basic scope of work:
1) Detect analog Modem, configure it (if it is not already configured)
and then dial using 800# and a default UserID and Password
and connect to the ISP Analog registration web-page using IE.
2) Allow the User to complete the registration on the web, and configure
a desktop icon or something similar so user can dial-in using their
real UID and Password that they just received.
I'm guessing that #1 is the hardest part of this project. Anyone have any
experience with this type of modem configuration/detection logic? If
anyone's interested, please send me an email. In particular, what you'd
charge for such a project.
