Hi, I'm relatively new to the list. I hope you don't mind if I jump right
in and share some thoughts on Cocoa (and OOP programming in general).
IMHO, the ultimate Cocoa programming language/environment doesn't exist
yet.
Why? Because Cocoa deserves - no, it's SCREAMING for - a truly VISUAL
programming language. I'm not talking about just visual interface design;
I'm talking about visual _programming_. I'm talking about a language
like,
well... Has anyone ever used Prograph <snip>
When I joined this list about eight months ago I, too, raved about the
need for a graphical programming tool of some sort, having recently given
up on Prograph due to the total lack of commitment to OS X on the part of
the owner of the software. There were a few guys around trying to do a
port of some sort, but after talking with two of them it was plain that
the effort was an abortion waiting to happen.
My idea was to go three dimensional, keeping as much of Cocoa as possible.
I also jumped right in, and wish the hell I had not! The flaming I put
up with went way beyond flicking a Bic--more like calling in a Napalm
strike on your own position. Of course, I made things much worse by
fighting back, not having much truck with bullying. My advice is to step
wisely around here, or you might find yourself anguishing over being
banned from certain sites like I have. Oh, you forgot to mention that the
Prograph documentation is also quite good, which, alas, is _not_ the case
with Cocoa--at least not from my standpoint as a beginner, more or less.
