Sorry this isn't an actual answer to your problem, Kent, but:
This is EXACTLY why we need continued support from Apple for an
Objective-C version of the Enterprise Objects Framework and the
flat-file adaptor. Developers are creating beautiful applications
very quickly and then running into a brick wall when it comes to
dealing with large, interrelated data sets.
The thing is, Apple *had* the best database access story on the
market. They still do in the web application space. Developers need
to send the message, loud and clear, that this technology is critical
to the rapid development of new applications.
I've been told the best way to do this is to file a feature request
in the bug reporter <
http://bugreport.apple.com/>.
If you want to see what you're missing, a bunch of the EOF 4.5
documentation is online as part of the legacy WebObjects 4.5
documentation at
<
http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/webobjects/WebObjects_4.5/webobjects.html>.
In particular, the EOF Developer's Guide has a good overview of the
framework.
