I've heard similar things about Aaron Hillegrass's book and whilst it doesn't take you as far as the
O'Reilly one, it certaintly gets you up and running a lot faster.

And being from the U.K, thanks for the tip about www.compman. Amazon's is USD 52.99 (incl. 11-18
days shipping).
