iDVD and iPhoto are both written in Cocoa/ObjC. Why would Apple begin developing its apps using a dead framework?

Not to mention other fundamental bits of the operating system... loginwindow and System Preferences, Mail, AddressBook, and lookupd is written in Obj-C although it doesn't use Cocoa.
