Selecting root item of submenu

Hi all,

Is there any way to select a root item of submenu?
For exmaple;

File Edit
-----------
Open
Close
Boo ------+---- Foo1
Print +---- Foo2
+---- Foo3

The "Boo" item does not make any messages to responder.
I want to know that user choose the "Boo" item.

Any suggestion welcome.
