So what? It's dead and buried (at the WWDC it was).

Resource forks are _not_ dead. They are used - amongst other things like custom icons and previews - by the Finder to save the user's custom file->application binding information ('usro' resource). This is a new feature in OS X, not an OS 9 legacy.

Please respect the needs of your users. If they want to store additional information about your files, don't discard them for political reasons.
