I had exactly the same misimpression, initially. Then I experimented with
this setting, and found out that it was what I wanted, after all.

I agree with you. A clickable link to each superclass method, with all of
the methods in all parents mixed together in alphabetical order, would be a
big help. It wouldn't add that much length to the document. But at least
there is a clickable hierarchy of the superclasses at the top of each class
reference document. You just have to get in the habit of clicking up that
chain.
